I bought the Sawyer Products Mini Water Filtration System for backpacking trips where every ounce counts and reliable hydration is non-negotiable. I needed a simple, effective, and incredibly light solution for personal water purification, and my initial thought was that this little filter was almost too good to be true, given its tiny size. After using it on multiple outings, it has proven itself to be a surprisingly powerful guardian against waterborne pathogens.The Mini excels in its simplicity and versatility. The 0.1-micron absolute hollow fiber membrane filtration provides top-tier protection against common threats found in natural water sources. I’ve used it in-line with my hydration pack, as a squeeze filter with the included pouch and a Smartwater bottle, and even with the straw to drink directly from a clean-flowing creek. It delivers clean water reliably, which is its most critical function. WOW this thing is amazing
they really made one heck of a filter for camping/hiking me and my wife do a lot of back country backpacking for 2 weeks at a time and this filter and a gravity bag and or a pack bladder is a must i have used other brands and by far this sawyer filter has worked the best having the good flow we have used it all summer and not once has it give any trouble just back flush it after your trip is done clean it and let it dry for storage

Very versatile
Another great product from Sawyer. I can use this with my Platypus dirty bag because I can utilize the existing hoses. The Sawyer plugs right in. If you want to use it by itself you can use the bag they include. It’s very versatile. It also has a very good flow rate so you’re not waiting around forever and that’s just using it as a gravity filter.

Three Years, Not Sick Yet!
Well good news is I’m not sick yet. Three years so far using this filter backpacking 50 miles each time and I have filtered some muddy water and it freakin came out clear tasting like fresh mountain water! I wouldn’t ever run muddy water through this filter unless absolutely needed but it does the job if you’re a hiker or backpacking. Sawyer is well known for their reliable products! Make sure after each trip you back flush it and you should be good to go.

So, this is probably the best in this class of water filters. I have a LifeStraw, a LifeStraw water bottle, an MSR (I think) travel filter (awful). This Sawyer is the best of them.There is no messing about with it, it just works. It comes with a collapsible pouch, which is nice because it makes it easier to drink from if you squeeze the container. It will also connect to standard disposable water bottles, if you prefer that or happen to have one. It comes with a straw, which is nice, so you can drink directly without the pouch, but you are pretty much lying on the ground to make that happen.One thing about the pouch, because it’s flexible, if you submerse it in water, it will collapse and push the air out without taking water in. So, you just have to inflate it with your mouth, and try to scoop water into it. Kind of a pain in the butt.Also, if there is any air in the container when you attach the filter, you can’t just drink from it like a straw, because you will just get air. So, bottoms up!I also have a Platypus 2L bag which this does plug into. Not sure if I can use it in-line, but I can definitely use it as a gravity filter with this Sawyer, so that’s a nice option.As for flavour, I haven’t tried it with really dirty water yet, just clean flowing streams, here in Ontario, but it is delicious. This is the best for the price point.
